One of the most common questions we hear is: "When should we visit?" The honest answer is that every season near Snoqualmie Pass has something special to offer. It depends on what you're looking for.
Here's a month-by-month breakdown of what to expect when you visit Alpine Lakes Lodge and the Snoqualmie Pass area.
Summer (June – August) — Peak Season
Weather: Highs of 75-85°F, lows in the 40-50s. Long daylight hours (up to 16 hours in June). Mostly dry with occasional afternoon thunderstorms.
Why visit in summer:
- All 4 private lakes are warm enough for swimming
- Free kayaking and paddle boating in perfect conditions
- Best fishing conditions on our stocked private lakes
- Longest hiking season with snow-free trails (most trails clear by late June)
- Farm animals (sheep, alpacas, horses) are most active
- Wildflower blooms in July and August at higher elevations
What to know:
- This is peak season — weekends book up early, especially July and August
- Expect warm days but cool evenings — bring layers for after sunset
- Mosquitoes can be active near water in June and early July — bring repellent
Best for: Families, water activities, hiking, fishing, groups
Fall (September – October) — The Hidden Gem
Weather: Highs of 55-70°F in September, dropping to 40-55°F in October. Cool, crisp mornings. Occasional rain showers.
Why visit in fall:
- Stunning fall foliage — the larches near Snoqualmie Pass turn golden in October
- Fewer crowds than summer but still great weather
- Excellent fishing as water temperatures cool
- Cozy cabin evenings with campfires
- Mushroom foraging season in the surrounding forests
- Lower rates and better weekend availability
What to know:
- Nights get cold (30s-40s°F) — warm sleeping bags for tent campers
- Some higher-elevation trails may close with early snow in October
- Shorter days (sunset around 6-7 PM)
Best for: Couples, photographers, quiet getaways, fall foliage
Winter (November – March) — Cozy Cabin Season
Weather: Highs of 30-40°F, lows in the 20s. Snow is common, especially December through February. The area gets 100+ inches of snow annually.
Why visit in winter:
- Snoqualmie Pass skiing and snowboarding just 20 minutes away at The Summit at Snoqualmie
- Cozy cabin and tiny home getaways with mini-split heating
- The lodge with its fireplace and movie theater room is magical in snow
- Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing nearby
- Stunning winter scenery — snow-covered pines, frozen lake edges, mountain views
- Fewest visitors — you may have the property nearly to yourself
What to know:
- I-90 can have winter driving conditions — carry chains and check pass conditions at WSDOT
- Some on-property trails may be snow-covered
- Lakes may partially freeze — no water activities in deep winter
- Our cabins and tiny homes have heating, but tent camping is not recommended
Best for: Skiers, couples, winter cabin getaways, holiday retreats
Spring (April – May) — Renewal Season
Weather: Highs of 50-65°F, lows in the 30-40s. Rain is common, with drier days becoming more frequent in May. Snow melts at lower elevations.
Why visit in spring:
- Lakes come alive as the water warms — early fishing is excellent
- Wildflowers start blooming at lower elevations
- Baby animals may be present on the property
- Waterfalls in the area are at peak flow from snowmelt
- Fewer visitors than summer — good availability
- Great value season before peak pricing kicks in
What to know:
- Trails at higher elevations still have snow — stick to lower trails and the Iron Horse Trail
- Evenings are still cool — bring warm layers
- Rain gear is essential
- Some RV sites may have limited access depending on snow conditions
Best for: Fishing, birdwatching, budget-conscious travelers, early-season hikers
